A Recap of ESCA Digital 2014

ESCA Digital 2014Last week, my Riversand colleagues and I attended the Entertainment Supply Chain Academy (ESCA) Digital Conference 2014, now in its ninth year. ESCA Digital is where home entertainment executives gather to share best practices and address the current and future state of the marketplace. ESCA began as the industry’s annual business conference responsible for driving efficiencies in the delivery of physical and digital home entertainment. Operations executives, technology providers and marketing leaders from the studios and their service provider partners consider ESCA the must-attend event of the year.

The conference delivered networking opportunities with entertainment executives from all points in the supply chain, from content creation through production, distribution and retail. Presentations delivered best practices examples and case studies that can assist entertainment companies in developing their individual digital supply chain strategies and partnerships. My colleagues and I discussed how Riversand’s entertainment clients are using MDMCenter to streamine and protect their priceless intellectual property, and how master data governance is critical to ensure consistency and accuracy across business teams.

Of all the conference presentations, we found “Behind the Wheel of the New Digital Entertainment Supply Chain” to be the favorite among attendees.   The panel, which featured digital operations executives in Hollywood who are pushing the speed limit on development of how digital content is distributed from the studio to the street, discussed how, as Hollywood repositions its production workflows and distribution systems to accommodate digital files and digital products, a new breed of studio executives are driving this transition by souping up traditional business supply chain best practices to accommodate the new opportunities and challenges of the new digital supply chain. As always, speed and efficiency set the pace, but winning teams are also required to support international drivers with more product in expanding markets.
