Rapid growth can lead to global data misalignment

Brightstar Corporation, over the past 17 years, has gone from being a tiny start-up to a $12B global enterprise.  But rapid growth, especially across diverse geographic regions, can also come at a price.

The company’s data was spread over multiple applications, multiple ERP systems with multiple instances, each one having its now language; numbering system, nomenclature.

This created confusion and a lack of uniformity across all the key areas of data; vendors, customers and products.  As a senior executive once put it in a meeting, “We don’t know what we have, where it is, what we are doing with it, and why it is there.”  For a company growing at the speed of sound, that can spell disaster.

They needed a Rosetta Stone to unify vendor, customer, product and reference data across their global enterprise.

Today, Brightstar’s “data stewards, have the tools they need to do their jobs on a daily basis”, notes Alejandra Rodriguez, Operations Manager in Costa Rica, “the tools are very user friendly and fast.”

The future of MDM looks bright for Brightstar’s data.  Of the 3-year data management work with Riversand to-date, Dawes notes that the company went from the 1990’s to the 2000’s since 2015 and with our next phase of our digital transformation, MDM2.0, we are moving into the future.
